The Virginia Law Foundation's mission includes oversight of Virginia Continuing Legal Education (Virginia CLE), a continuing legal education sponsor providing the state's largest selection of CLE seminars and practice handbooks. Operational policy direction is provided by a 22-person CLE Committee comprised of 15 practicing lawyers plus 7 law professors, one from each of the state's law schools. The Chair of the CLE Committee serves as an ex-officio member of the Foundation's Board of Directors.
Headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia CLE has a staff of 29 and an annual operating budget approaching $6M. Since it inception in 1960, it has provided thousands of continuing legal education programs to Virginia lawyers.
The Virginia CLE website at www.vacle.org averages hundreds of hits per day and has become the most important way for attorneys to find out about Virginia CLE seminars and publications. The website is also home to an extensive offering of online seminars, featuring streaming audio and on-screen print-your-own written materials, and a bulletin board of questions and comments.
